Ingredients Matter

I've said it before and I'll say it again, ingredients matter.  This has never proven to be more true than it has these days and more importantly in America where every chemical

poison is FDA approved for your daily consumption.  Not only are the types of foods we eat important but maybe even more important is what is added to them should be equally reviewed.

I think it's 'safe' to say the lab results are out and they have proven our health care system is broken...but not beyond repair.

When you  begin looking at every possible ingredient as a way to build your immune system or damage it, it should compel you to make each one count because it truly does.

When my husband and I are out and about eating not so healthy things is most likely a factor when meeting up with friends and family who don't necessarily share our views.  Almost immediately after eating, my husband quickly feels the repercussions of bad food choices through a change in his mood, mental fog or simply stomach pain.

I have often thought about how most Americans are slowly being poisoned through FDA approved amounts of poison through not just one thing but a multitude of things throughout their daily life.  I am also intrigued at how we are able to 'feel' how the food we eat is produced or farmed by the moods we feel.  Ever feel a great sense of comfort when you eat high quality food cooked by someone who loves you?  Ever feel like you need a shower or like a brick is sitting in your belly after eating greasy conventional foods?  How about the overwhelming sense of lostness or sadness?

I personally do not believe we feel these things for no reason.  Several years ago, I began to realize when something sad (ex: tragic news) happens, I leaned towards 'comfort' foods that in turn left me lazy and hopeless.  When my husband did his best to keep me on the positive side he would make sure I got a fresh green juice or raw food meal and remind me what we were fighting for (helping others).  And in turn I would begin to feel more optimistic and outgoing in my thoughts words and actions.

As we grew in our faith we were further more able to get a grip on our emotions and in turn a grip on our eating choices.  With the knowledge we began pairing it with wisdom and words into actions more consistently.

The more we choose healthy foods, the more we are able to taste food in the way it was intended.  We no longer have strong urges to eat super rich sugary desserts and are pleasantly more content to enjoy a semi sweet treat with whole foods as the base.  We can quickly taste artificial flavors and sweeteners that leave an unpleasant lingering aftertaste.  As with any big change, or say working out, it takes work to get to where your muscles aren't straining as much to achieve tasks that lead to stronger muscles.

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..." -Hosea 4:6

There are small doses of chemicals that are put into our foods as fillers, sweetners, preservers, etc to literally save the brand money and/or to excite our synapses to death...literally!   These chemicals are called excitotoxins.

Excitotoxins:

"Excitotoxins are a class of chemicals (usually amino acids) that overstimulate neuron receptors. Neuron receptors allow brain cells to communicate with each other, but when they're exposed to excitotoxins, they fire impulses at such a rapid rate that they become exhausted. Several hours later, these depleted neurons die. Scientists have noted this effect particularly in the hypothalamus and temporal lobes – the parts of the brain that control behavior, emotions, onset of puberty, sleep cycles and immunity.

Excitotoxin substances have long been used by food manufacturers to pump up the flavor of their products, and food manufacturers continue to insist they are safe. But in recent years, many health experts have regarded both excitotoxins and manufacturers’ assurances with increasing concern."-experience life

Most people think Chinese restaurants when they hear MSG but you would be well to know that it is in most American processed foods from diet cokes to low-fat to fast food to naturally flavored snacks and more are chalked full of these toxic chemicals.  These toxins have been linked to human neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, alzheimer’s disease and parkinson’s disease.

"And there are other problems. Once inside the body, aspartame changes chemically into formaldehyde, a substance that is grouped in the same class of poisons as cyanide and arsenic. And when a product containing aspartame is heated to more than 86 degrees (for example, artificially sweetened hot cocoa), a brain-cancer-causing by-product called diketopiperazine is formed."-experienced life
"Reaction times vary, too. While some people react immediately after consuming excitotoxins, it may take up to 72 hours for others to notice that they are having a reaction. As noted, the symptoms themselves also vary widely, ranging from a simple skin rash to severe depression. Headaches, however, are by far the most commonly reported side effect."-experienced life

Not the Children!

"Experts agree that children are more susceptible than adults to excitotoxin damage. A child’s brain is four times more sensitive to excitotoxins than an adult’s brain, according to research by John W. Olney, MD, a neuroscientist at Washington University in St. Louis. Although any permanent brain damage will not be evident until the child is more mature, other common, more immediate reactions include behavioral disorders such as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), impaired learning, stomach cramps, depression and nausea."-experienced life

People are being plagued with so much doctoring that we are forgetting that our health shouldn't be someone else's right to practice science on.   We also need to practice responsibility  and self control to care for the bodies we've been given.

If your daily food intake consists of guzzling down that commercial coffee laced with flavored creamers accompanied by a donut, crackers, toast, pancakes followed by a lunch with dressings, sauces, soups paired with a flavored drink and then a dinner with gravy, pasta and a sugar-free dessert or something in this vein, you probably experience headaches regularly and think it is just old age or normal.

I greatly encourage you to stop killing yourself (literally) and begin a purge of 'ingredients' starting with the few you sprinkle on your day to day foods or pour on your salad or coffee.  More than likely even your seasonings cabinet is laced with these excitotoxins.

Any Good News?

Good news is you can reverse the damage that has been done by good old fashioned common sense and self control.  A good way to jumpstart that train is by consuming more than half a diet of organic raw foods.

What happens when you steward well?

  • You become good at reading labels

  • You may start to make your own sauces.

  • You give honest hardworking farmers jobs.

  • You help farmers continue keeping the soil clean and therefore food organic.

  • You help families survive through their good responsible work.

  • You consciously practice self control.

  • You handle your emotions better.

  • You rebuild your immune system.

  • You detox.

  • You begin to refine your palette for true natural flavors, helping to control cravings.

  • You educate yourself in reading labels.

  • You practice what you preach.

  • You empower others gain back their health.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has put both aspartame and MSG on its list of food additives to avoid (for details, see www.cspinet.org/ additives).

Have you cut out excitotoxins in your diet?  Have you noticed any changes?  What is your experiences while on these drugs?
